As the US version of Alternators lacked specific fiction or character bios, we can only look to Japan's version of Alternators, Binaltech, which came with character cards and bio information by Hirofumi Ichikawa, the information presented here is from the English translation by Doug Dlin.
In Binaltech fiction, Dead End was converted to his Binaltech form through the efforts of Dr. Arkeville and Starscream. Using the doctor's hypnochip and Bombshell's cerebro-shells, they were able to develop the technology to infiltrate Binaltech research facilities and turn EDC (Earth Defense Command) agents into spies for the Decepticons.
Dead End's personality was secretly transfered into a body that had been meant for an Autobot (probably Sunstreaker). He went as far as to go through with performing all of the EDC's working tests before officially debuting as BT-5.
Now, the Binaltech project, once the great hope of the Autobots and Mankind has met it's greatest crisis!
While he still retains his fatalistic outlook on life, Dead End has grown to like his new body and fears that one day he will have to be transfered back into his old body as his updated from is unable to combine with his fellow Stuntacons to form Menasor.
