Decepticons, Alternators |
As the US version of Alternators lacked specific fiction or character bios, we can only look to Japan's version of Alternators, Binaltech, which came with character cards and bio information by Hirofumi Ichikawa, the information presented here is from the English translation by Doug Dlin. There was no Binaltech version of Decepticharge, and thus no fiction or bio for him, but there is an (in my opinion) interesting story behind development of the toy. Confirmed by early design sketches in the Transformers Binaltech & Transformers Collection Complete Guide, Decepticharge's head was originally designed to be the head for an Alternators/Binaltech mustang (Grimlock) repaint which would be named Windcharger, this plan changed somewhere in development and the second Mustang ended up being Wheeljack. Sometime in April 2005 it was announced that the Decpticharge would be released as Wildrider in the Binaltech line. Then in an odd turn of events Hobby Link Japan reported that the Binaltech version of the mold would sport an entirely different color scheme which bore a resemblence to Blackarachnia and be released as "Black Widow". In August 2005, HobbyLink Japan then reported that Windrider had been postponed indefinitely. The reason being (as explained by Hirofumi Ichikawa) that the name Wildrider had encountered trademark problems. Takara decided that too many re-decos of older toys in too short of time was a bad thing and the toy never saw release in the Binaltech line. |
