He continues the tradition started by Powermaster Optimus Prime / Super Ginrai the previous year of a leader toy who has a "normal" sized toy and can combine with a secondary section (in this case, the shuttle booster) to form a larger "super" robot. This trend would remain with Transformers and Takara's other super robot franchise, the Brave series, right through to the present day. Star Saber can also combine with Victory Leo to form the awesomely huge Victory Saber. |

Star Saber Additional Info
Star Saber's super robot head transformation involves the robot helmet sliding into place on top of the smaller robot's head - however, this also creates an alternate super robot form which is occasionally used in the series, where Star Saber is fully transformed, but leaves the battle helmet off. This form is only ever seen in scenes where Star Saber is present at the Cybertron HQ, and has been dubbed "casual mode" by fans.
Said super robot helmet transformation is sometimes a small issue with loose Star Sabers - the screws that the mechanism is connected to will loosen with time, causing the helmet's spring loaded faceplate to push the helmet up slightly. It is possible to adjust this by tightening the screws, although naturally over time they may work loose once again.
